When I was little, I listened with my Mom 50′s and 60′s Album Collections…They were all downloaded in my brain even when I was just inside her womb, I believe this, haha, so that now when I hear this song –  ”I’m so young and you’re so old, this my darling I’ve been told, I don’t care just what they say, coz’ forever I will pray…Oh please stay by me Diana….” Oh, wow! This song would really make my day.  It uplifts my spirit too.  This song is like a lullaby to me.  I just love its lyrics and melody…

Christy Hengel, Is One of a Few Manufacturers of Concertinas in the U.S. Today. He Hand Crafts His Instrument Which Is Noted for Its Special Sound and Sells for $1,100…

Paul Anka, Tom Jones, Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Bee Gees, are top albums I listened to the most while growing up usually with my mom. She had collections of them. Although I am a jazz-kind-of-a-hip-hop music lover, I still enjoy listening  to them.  To me these albums are lovely, classical and immortal…

How about you guys, would you like to share us those top albums you listened too while growing up?
You can use the comment below and if you have any video responses, it would be very nice too.  Just post them below in the comment area.  Merci :)

Toothsome Is Crying Her Heart Out For Syria

D

Free Syria

Help Free Syria!

***

***

One of my colleagues who happens to be my best friend here is a Syrian.  I went to visit his Dental Office to give him some sweet and he broke me the news that his University was bombed by their Government Military and around 100 students died.  Click here.

I asked about how his parents are coping with their day to day living, because the last time I talked to his mom was like 3 years ago and Syria was still peaceful back then.

He said that they already lost their family house and everything in there were all stolen and now his parents moved to his house.  His parents and siblings are all there.  He tried to get them and bring them here but unfortunately the  Government here had stopped issuing visa for the Syrian people.  He said they do not have electricity, plus it’s winter too, so his father now of 85 years old is sick.  I asked him if there is a way for them to come out from Syria and go to nearby countries.  He said there is no more airport in Syria and if they will go to Turkey, the refugee camp there is not so accommodating and people are mistreated.  So his parents decided to just stay in his house to live and if they die or got bombed or killed then they die.  They just leave it to God’s mercy.

I just found myself in tears.  How there are people who wish to harm other people only to gain power.

My heart goes to Syrian people and I hope and pray that they will soon be free.

I visited Syria last 2005, and it was really a beautiful country.  Photos below were taken in Aleppo Citadel.  October, 2005.

D D D

And today their own people destroyed their own country.  It’s really sad :(

Is there anything we can do about it?  Well personally I do not really know how but the only thing I know for sure that I could do is to offer my prayers for them.

I would like to end this post with this country song by Ricky Skaggs. Enjoy!
As we all know Toothsome, she always like us to end our days with a smile :)

I named my plant, “Oxima”

IMG_2701

I checked to see all the posts I have published and for the record as of today I have already published 1,197 posts to be exact :)
But there are several posts which some of you may have missed to read, so I thought it would be nice to revisit them and share them with you…  and this post is one of them.   Enjoy :)

When I arrived here in Jeddah, 4 years ago, I bought some indoor plants and placed them in my flat.  I thought that it would be nice to have something fresh with me every day.

But unfortunately I do not have that what they called “green palms”, so that one by one they started to get dry and die.  Plus the weather here is really hot especially during summer season. You bet I always have my air-condition on.  And when I go for my holidays, there is no one who I could ask a favor to water them.  By then of course the room temperature would become too hot.  For sure the plants could be cooked. :)

I will be gone usually 3 weeks and sometime a month, so every time I get back from vacation, I would be crazy to water them and do the best I can to save them. But no matter what I do, they continued to wither.  I was disappointed so I just left them, I meant literally just let them to die.  I never watered them anymore.

One day I did a general cleaning in my flat so I’ve got to get rid of those things that are of no longer useful for me.

I was about to dispose the remaining plant left in my flat because most of its leaves were dried, I thought this plant won’t make it too.

But then when I saw a little bud of new leaf growing just beside its limb.  I was amazed!  I said, “Wow! Of all the plants this one made it. In spite of what I did, I don’t know how she did it but the thing was she survived!

This plant inspired me and thought me a lesson.  No matter what the circumstances may be, I should never ever give up, I must move on and passionately pursue my mission.

…And So I fixed it up and then I asked what name it would like to be called.

That night I dreamt of the word “OXIMA” so that’s where I get its name.

Are you familiar with “Lexigram”?  Because I lexigram the word OXIMA and I came up with this words from it:

Oxi/Oxy-root word of oxygen and oxygen is air and we need air to breath, to live, to have a life and become alive.

Ma- we called our mother in short Ma.  Plants are living things  and  so basically they are the natures arounds us, the beauty of the earth materials and the mother earth itself that are within us.

With these 2 words in my mind, I understand why this plant stayed with me.
I made this blog for this special plant named “Oxima” :)

Dieffenbachia (Dumb Cane) : one of the many “poisonous houseplants”.

I read this poem from one of my favorite books about Lexigrams.  I thought this would be awesome to share with all of my co-bloggers…  And perhaps you may find it interesting to lexigram a word, a name, a title or phrase too, which is really fun to do. :)

words divine, words sublime…  holy, holy words !
a picture is worth ten thousand words
so the Oriental sages say…  and therefore is the higher
nay, nay…  for shame !
for it takes words to tell…  even of that ancient claim
the hidden glory of every story
shines forth in words, words, words !
the miracle of the Easter gladness
overcoming death’s morbid sadness
is told in words, words, words !

words have wings, like birds
to fly through the sky of the mind

…  be ye aS wiSe aS a Serpent
yet aS harmleSS aS a dove…

words…  those mysterious scribbles on a page
holding the wisdom of every age
the experience and teaching of every sage

oh!  the beautiful rhyming of the proper timing
of words !

powerful words, that ring with truth
words that sing, forsooth  !
yes, words that ring and words that sing
words of spring and every good thing…  like kitties…

“What do you do all day?”

===============================================================

A man came home from work and found his three children outside, still in their pajamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and 20 wrappers strewn all around the front yard.

The door of his wife’s car was open, and so the front door to the house and there was no sign of the dog. Proceeding into the entry, he found an even bigger mess. A lamp had been knocked over, and the throw rug was wadded against one wall.

In the front room the TV was loudly blaring a cartoon channel, and the family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing.

In the kitchen, dishes filled the sink, breakfast food was spilled on the counter, the fridge door was open wide, dog food was spilled on the floor a broken glass lay under the table, and a small pile of sand was spread by the back door.

He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over toys and more piles of clothes, looking for his wife.. He was worried she might be ill, or that something serious had happened.

He was met with a small trickle of water as it made its way out the bathroom door.

As he peered inside he found wet towels, scummy soap and more toys strewn over the floor. Miles of toilet paper lay in a heap and toothpaste had been smeared over the mirror and walls.

As he rushed to the bedroom, he found his wife still curled up in the bed in her pajamas, reading a novel.

She looked up at him, smiled, and asked how his day went..

He looked at her bewildered and asked, ‘What happened here today?’

She again smiled and answered, ‘You know every day when you come home from work and you ask me what in the world I do all day?’

‘Yes,’ was his incredulous reply?

She answered, ‘Well, today I didn’t do it..‘

Ooooops! Keep it cool honey :)

How about a little kitty massage?

Is there a message in this post?  I would like to hear a word or two from you guys…

#7 All Time Favorite Post- Jar Of Life

Revisited…

A professor stood before his Philosophy class and had some items in front of him on the table.

When the class began, wordlessly he picked up a very large and empty glass jar and proceeded to fill it with rocks that were about 2″ in diameter.

He then asked his students if the jar were full. They all agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the rocks.

He then asked the students again if the jar were full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else.

He asked once more if the jar were full. The students responded with an unanimous “yes.”

The professor then put out two take away cups of coffee from under the table and poured both into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand.

The students laughed.

“Now,” said the professor, as the laughter subsided, “I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.”

“The rocks are the important things – your family, your children, your health, your friends, and your favorite passions – things that if everything else were lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.”

“The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, and your car. The sand is everything else – the small stuff.”

“If you put the sand into the jar first,” he continued, “there is no room for the pebbles or the rocks.”

“It is very important to put all the larger stones in the jar first, so that we will be able to fit all of them later.

“The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.”

“Take care of the rocks first, the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.”

One of the students raised his hand and inquired what the coffee represented.

The professor smiled. “I’m glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there’s always room for a cup of coffee with a friend.”

~ Author Unknown ~

So then we ask ourselves what are the large stones in our life? Our Health? Family? Friends? Our Goals?Things we love to Do like  writing, blogging or fighting for a Cause? Taking Time for Ourself?

What we must remember is that it is most important to include the larger stones in our lives, because if we don’t do so, we are likely to miss out on life altogether. If we give priority to the smaller things in life (pebbles & sand), our lives will be filled up with less important things, leaving little or no time for the things in our lives that are most important to us. If we spend all our time and energy on the small stuff, we will never have room for the things that are important to us. Pay attention to the things that are critical to our happiness. Let’s play with our children. Take our partner out dancing. There will always be time to go to work, clean the house, give a dinner party and fix the disposal.

Take care of the rocks first – the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.”

Because of this, never forget to ask yourself,

“What are the Large Stones in my Life?”

And once you identify them, be sure to put them first in your

“Jar of Life”.

#31 All Time Favorite Post- When The Earth Starts Moving…

THE EARTH

Earth is the third planet from the Sun and the fifth largest:

orbit: 149,600,000 km (1.00 AU) from Sun diameter: 12,756.3 km mass: 5.972e24 kg
The Earth as seen from space

Earth is the only planet whose English name does not derive from Greek/Roman mythology. The name derives from Old English and Germanic. There are, of course, hundreds of other names for the planet in other languages. In Roman Mythology, the goddess of the Earth was Tellus – the fertile soil (Greek: Gaia, terra mater - Mother Earth).

It was not until the time of Copernicus (the sixteenth century) that it was understood that the Earth is just another planet.
Earth, of course, can be studied without the aid of spacecraft. Nevertheless it was not until the twentieth century that we had maps of the entire planet. Pictures of the planet taken from space are of considerable importance; for example, they are an enormous help in weather prediction and especially in tracking and predicting hurricanes. And they are extraordinarily beautiful.
The Earth is divided into several layers which have distinct chemical and seismic properties (depths in km):
-0- 40 Crust 40- 400 Upper mantle 400- 650 Transition region 650-2700 Lower mantle 2700-2890 D'' layer 2890-5150 Outer core 5150-6378 Inner core

The crust varies considerably in thickness, it is thinner under the oceans, thicker under the continents. The inner core and crust are solid; the outer core and mantle layers are plastic or semi-fluid. The various layers are separated by discontinuities which are evident in seismic data; the best known of these is the Mohorovicic discontinuity between the crust and upper mantle.

Earth as seen from the Moon

Most of the mass of the Earth is in the mantle, most of the rest in the core; the part we inhabit is a tiny fraction of the whole (values below x10^24 kilograms):

 atmosphere = 0.0000051 oceans = 0.0014 crust = 0.026 mantle = 4.043 outer core = 1.835 inner core = 0.09675

The core is probably composed mostly of iron (or nickel/iron) though it is possible that some lighter elements may be present, too. Temperatures at the center of the core may be as high as 7500 K, hotter than the surface of the Sun. The lower mantle is probably mostly silicon, magnesium and oxygen with some iron, calcium and aluminum. The upper mantle is mostly olivene and pyroxene (iron/magnesium silicates), calcium and aluminum. We know most of this only from seismic techniques; samples from the upper mantle arrive at the surface as lava from volcanoes but the majority of the Earth is inaccessible. The crust is primarily quartz (silicon dioxide) and other silicates like feldspar. Taken as a whole, the Earth’s chemical composition (by mass) is:

 34.6% Iron 29.5% Oxygen 15.2% Silicon 12.7% Magnesium 2.4% Nickel 1.9% Sulfur 0.05% Titanium

The Earth is the densest major body in the solar system.

The other terrestrial planets probably have similar structures and compositions with some differences: the Moon has at most a small core; Mercury has an extra large core (relative to its diameter); the mantles of Mars and the Moon are much thicker; the Moon and Mercury may not have chemically distinct crusts; Earth may be the only one with distinct inner and outer cores. Note, however, that our knowledge of planetary interiors is mostly theoretical even for the Earth.

Earth as a map of the world

Unlike the other terrestrial planets, Earth’s crust is divided into several separate solid plates which float around independently on top of the hot mantle below. The theory that describes this is known as plate tectonics. It is characterized by two major processes: spreading and subduction. Spreading occurs when two plates move away from each other and new crust is created by upwelling magma from below. Subduction occurs when two plates collide and the edge of one dives beneath the other and ends up being destroyed in the mantle. There is also transverse motion at some plate boundaries (i.e. the San Andreas Fault in California) and collisions between continental plates (i.e. India/Eurasia). There are (at present) eight major plates:

  • North American Plate – North America, western North Atlantic and Greenland
  • South American Plate - South America and western South Atlantic
  • Antarctic Plate – Antarctica and the “Southern Ocean”
  • Eurasian Plate – eastern North Atlantic, Europe and Asia except for India
  • African Plate – Africa, eastern South Atlantic and western Indian Ocean
  • Indian-Australian Plate – India, Australia, New Zealand and most of Indian Ocean
  • Nazca Plate – eastern Pacific Ocean adjacent to South America
  • Pacific Plate – most of the Pacific Ocean (and the southern coast of California!)

There are also twenty or more small plates such as the Arabian, Cocos, and Philippine Plates. Earthquakes are much more common at the plate boundaries. Plotting their locations makes it easy to see the plate boundaries (right).

The Earth’s surface is very young. In the relatively short (by astronomical standards) period of 500,000,000 years or so erosion and tectonic processes destroy and recreate most of the Earth’s surface and thereby eliminate almost all traces of earlier geologic surface history (such as impact craters). Thus the very early history of the Earth has mostly been erased. The Earth is 4.5 to 4.6 billion years old, but the oldest known rocks are about 4 billion years old and rocks older than 3 billion years are rare. The oldest fossils of living organisms are less than 3.9 billion years old. There is no record of the critical period when life was first getting started.

71 Percent of the Earth’s surface is covered with water. Earth is the only planet on which water can exist in liquid form on the surface (though there may be liquid ethane or methane on Titan’s surface and liquid water beneath the surface of Europa). Liquid water is, of course, essential for life as we know it. The heat capacity of the oceans is also very important in keeping the Earth’s temperature relatively stable. Liquid water is also responsible for most of the erosion and weathering of the Earth’s continents, a process unique in the solar system today (though it may have occurred on Mars in the past).

And when the earth starts moving, it is time to get out of the way…
